My TPACK Journey

TPACK Reflection:

I learned a lot about eBook creation from using SlideRocket for the first time. I found SlideRocket to be very much like Microsoft Powerpoint, except the online version. For this reason I was comfortable navigating my own way to create slide transitions and backgrounds etc. Something new that I learned was how to change an image to a smaller version and how to shorten links for presentation purposes.

In using the Activity Type, SlideRocket,  I learned how students could use the projects to make personalized eBooks for Project‐Based Lesson. Students can use the program to share personal stories and reflections with others using technology. They can also be saved and shared on an online portfolio much like the EduBlog I have created.  I think I would used eBooks in my own teaching for novel study assignments. Students can then incorporate clips of music, voice readings, and even movie clips if their book has a corresponding film they can add clips from youtube and vimeo.

SlideRocket is best learned by using online tutorials or in a field trip format to explore the various tools and capabilities of the program. Giving students in class time to explore the program is necessary, along with handouts much like the ones on handy4class.com. Step-by-step processes should be given to students so that they can go back and reflect on skills learned to be able to apply them to a culminating activity or book report.

Technology enhances what students learn. It makes subjects interesting and provides a fresh perspective of what is being studied. Technology can be a safe place for students to practice and learn skills, because many of them have the background knowledge of technology already.
