Cooperative Learning Model of Teaching

Dear Students and Parents,
After a collaborative multimedia session with my peers, involving Smart Board introductions and collaborative technological group work, I have decided to try something similar in our Grade 6 classroom!
In this Professional Development session, I learned the importance of introducing the Smart Board to students in small-groups. Students will have to opportunity to interact with the smart board and test out the various different applications. The purpose for this activity to is to allow students to get familiar with the Smart Board when interacting with it during lessons/activities, but also to be able to use it for their own presentations.
While each small-group comes up to the Smart Board to complete the learning activity. The rest of the class is still working in their small groups.

In the mini-Smart Board lessons, students will be introduced to the Smart Board and how to use it. Activities will include:

  • Adding Custom Animations
  • Adding Transitions
  •  Enhancing with Sound/Video

  • Throughout the term, we will be having some language, Social Studies and Science periods in the computer lab. The purpose of this is to allow students time to work collaboratively in small groups to explore topics in Social Studies and Science (including Language Arts criteria).
In our next Computer/Technology class students will have the opportunity to work in small groups to explore different websites, online learning technologies, and smart board applications. The intent of working in small groups, for this activity, is to allow students to learn from one another's prior technological knowledge and furthemore develop new understandings together.
